PGA Frisco is the largest golf development in the country, but you don’t need to play golf to enjoy it. This 660-acre campus in north Frisco has two championship courses, 13 restaurants and bars, four pools, a full spa, live entertainment, and a growing retail district.
Here’s what locals should know.
The Golf
PGA Frisco has two 18-hole championship courses, both open to the public.
Fields Ranch East was designed by Gil Hanse. It stretches 7,603 yards and is built to host major championships, including future PGA Championships, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, and the 2041 Ryder Cup. Walking with a caddy is mandatory on the East course. No carts unless you have an approved medical exemption. Green fees run up to around $330 depending on season, with resort guests getting discounted rates.
Fields Ranch West was designed by Beau Welling. It’s more playable at 7,319 yards with hillier terrain. Carts are available on the West course. Green fees are lower than the East. West is closed Tuesdays for maintenance. Most weekend visitors who play three rounds choose the West twice and the East once.
Tee times are open to the public and can be booked online. Resort guests get priority booking windows. Book early, especially for the East course on weekends.
The Short Course and Putting Green
The Swing is a lighted 10-hole par-3 short course with holes ranging from 45 to 103 yards. Co-designed by Hanse and Welling, it plays music, has a bar cart making rounds, and takes under 90 minutes. It’s the most fun you’ll have on a golf course without keeping score. Open after sunset under stadium lights.
The Dance Floor is a two-acre natural-grass putting course, one of the largest in the country. Great for families, casual golfers, or warming up before a round.
Where to Eat
PGA Frisco has 13 dining options. The standouts:
Trick Rider is the upscale restaurant inside the resort. Dry-aged steaks, a horseshoe-shaped bar, and a Swarovski crystal horse chandelier made from over 4,000 crystals. Chef Joe Riojas introduced a popular Iberico pork chop. This is the splurge dinner.
Ice House is the laid-back pick. Post-oak smoked barbecue, a beer garden, Toptracer hitting bays, and views of the short course. If you only eat at one place, make it this one.
The Apron serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast tacos with burnt ends brisket are a local favorite.
Ryder Cup Grille has a classic clubhouse feel with a familiar menu. Good for a quick lunch between rounds.
Non-Golf Activities
The Omni PGA Frisco Resort has four pools, including an adults-only rooftop infinity pool with fairway views. The Mokara Spa offers full-service treatments.
The PGA District is a walkable area outside the resort with shopping, live weekend entertainment, and family activities. Blue Lacy Mercantile sells women’s cowboy boots, Western hats, and luxury leather goods. Gimme Toys is a kids’ toy store where a portion of sales benefits The First Tee of Greater Dallas. Lounge by Topgolf has Swing Suite technology with virtual games for non-golfers.
Weekend events include wine walks, tequila and tacos nights, and outdoor movie screenings. Check the PGA Frisco events calendar for the schedule.
The Resort
The Omni PGA Frisco Resort has 500 guest rooms and suites plus 10 four-bedroom luxury ranch houses. It’s the closest lodging to the courses and the PGA District. Pet-friendly (up to two pets under 60 pounds, $150 cleaning fee).
Even if you’re not staying overnight, the resort’s restaurants and the rooftop Bluestem Bar are open to visitors.
Tips From a Local
If you’re not a golfer, The Swing short course is the best entry point. It’s casual, affordable, and the evening atmosphere under the lights is hard to beat.
Make dinner reservations at Trick Rider on weekends. Walk-ins face long waits.
Summers are brutal on the courses. If you’re playing the East course with a mandatory caddy and walking, book a morning tee time and bring plenty of water.
The PGA District events are free and open to the public. Weekend live music at Ice House draws a good crowd without feeling packed.
